Does the $100 million investment include the government solar rebates and local rebates or not? If not, then the investment should be significantly less.

I am surprised that the group doesn’t do smaller installations over the next 10 years to take advantage of local rebates, which will only rebate a specified amount of solar installations.

I am in the process of bidding a 8-10Kw PV in my front yard & want simplesolar.com, namastesolar.com, etc to bid the SunPower 315 Panel.
I have a limited, but unshaded space & need the most efficient panels for an electroylizer for my planned Honda Clarity. This system will have real-time FireFox access (see gauge31.d.egauge.net) and as a Sunpower & Honda stock holder, I would like to showcase their best technology.

Nice site. We are holding many of the same picks currently as North Coast has advised staying with the strongest players in the industry during this downturn. ESLR was not one of our top 6 this time. In Nov, we suggested picking up some leaders on the cheap and that portfolio is beating the SPX by 17% so far in less than 5 months. A more complete portfolio that we posted in June of 2007 doubled in six months and beat the SPX by over 35% by the time we closed the last position on stop loss in October of 2008. But the materials that are used to make solar panels aren’t renewable and the cost effectiveness of solar panels still fall behind fossil fuel energy production at their most expensive ($0.98 kwh compared to $0.09 kwh). And also the Green Energy Act is going to base-load, Ontario’s energy needs with natural gas, a fossil fuel. Good working Ontario!!!

We have to look at “the big picture.” The days of tunnel vision need to cease. Our nation better wake up and smell the coffee. With all our bail outs along with the 168 billion economic stimulus package, that btw did nothing for our economy it is hard to understand why our government can’t see the need to bail us out of our dependence on foreign oil. The high cost of fuel this past year did serious damage to our economy and society. While we are doing the “happy dance” around the lower prices at the pumps they are planning to cut production to jack prices back up. Instead of spending billions on stimulus pkgs that don’t work and millions to bail out everyone and his brother why don’t we invest a few on renewable energy projects. WE could provide cheap clean energy, create millions of badly needed green collar jobs and reduce our dependency on foreign oil. This would be a win-win situation all the way around. Jeff Wilson has a great new book out called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW, these guys all need to read this book.

We are just getting started here as this is part of a much larger project.

I agree that Alternative Energy is the least we can do, and investing in it creates a win-win-win that allows everyone to participate at a level that is practical or possible for them. This industry certainly needs all the support it can get right now.

With oil headed to $150 and beyond, a deflationary source of energy like solar (just another semiconductor at its heart) is just what we need. We need more support for solar domestically and I look forward to a new approach in 2009.
